Insulin like growth factor binding protein 4 (IGFBP4) is a member of the IGFBP4 family, which is a secreted glycoprotein that maintain IGFI and IGFII in the circulation and direct them to their target tissues. Human IGFBP4 was isolated from human plasma based on its ability to bind immobilized IGFI. Human IGFBP4 cDNA encodes a 258 amino acid (aa) residue precursor protein with a predicted 21 aa residue signal peptide that is processed to generate the 237 aa residue mature human IGFBP4. IGFBP4 involved in glucose metabolism by inhibit IGF actions by binding to IGFs and preventing the binding of IGFs to IGF receptors.
